ENERGY FROM WASTE.
How to start
Capital generation.
The Project will need a Five Years long term loan of Half Million on 20 % seed money. to have a plot of land of 5 acres to develop develop an animal shed, for 600 calves, Raw material dump yard, bio gas digester and plant equipment with a credit line of $ 1,50, 000 to use for as the emergency reserved fund.
Operation Strategy.
- PURCHASE ONE WEEK OLD 50 CALVES EVERY MONTH AT THE CURRENT RATE OF $150, PER HEAD) 150 x 50= $ 7 500, AND REAR THEMM FOR 150 DAYS @ON THE FEEDING EXPENSES OF 5 kg per day 50 x 150 COSTING A TOTAL 45,000)) AND SELL 50 YEARLINGS, MONTHLY AT 400 Kg AVERAGE WEIGHT FOR SLAUGHTER ($. 5 per Kg X 400 X 50=@ 1,00,000) YIELDING NET INCOME (1,00,000 less 45,000= 55,000, further reduced for Misc, and mortality) to $ 25,000.
(2) THE BIOGAS PLANT WILL USE THE YEARLINGS MANURE AT 10 TONS PER DAY, FOR THE BIO GAS PLANT.
Currently (2024) two weeks old weaned calves, are available at an average, cost of @ 150 per head. The total cost of purchase of the baby calves and their rearing for 150 days on a good ration of $ 5 per day, per head enabling them to gain 400 kg bringing the total production cost to (50 x 5 x 150= 37,500 + the purchase cost ( $ 150 x 50= 7,500=) 45, 000. Such live animals are auction sold for slaughter, at $ 5 per Kg or $ 2,000 per head leaving a gross monthly income to 55,000 for 50 yearlings p. m. The gross sale proceed is rounded to 35,000. discounting expenses for mortality, weight gain variation, medical and auction commission ertc.
The animal’s dung, 6-9 kg, p. day is simultaneously used for the anaerobic digestion. If an average dung of 6 kg P. D. is adopted, per animal (50 yearlings x 6 kg= 3, 00 Kg or 3.6 tons per day from a total herd of 600 calves. As such, major part of the raw material, will be available from the very first month of the operation. If the same operation is continued for the full year, it will have 600 yearlings over the year, producing the 3.8 tons manure p. day,
To accommodate the required strength. of the 600, yearlings, the envisaged plant will need a covered shed (providing 2 x 3= 6 Sq. meters space per bead, 6 x 600=) 3,600 m.
- One manure dump, using 10 tons manure every second day, with one week store for 35 m tons will also be constructed along with the cattle shed.
- One bi-gas digesters, tank of concrete or metal, having a capacity of 10 tons manure per day for the future expansion, for dung and gas storage, (6 x 6 x 6 approx. 2026 cubic meters.) will also be erected
- The bio mass digester using ten tons manure every second day, will produce methane gas, which can be converted to 480 KWH electriccity per day. or 14, 400 KWH power per month.
- The Saskatchewan Government purchases electricity @ 7 cents per KWH ( 14,400 x 7= $ 1008 per month
- In case, the additional gas is bottled or cylindered as CNG it can also be marketed.
- Subject to the success, the number of the bio gas chambers will be increased every year. The actual gas production from ten tons bio mass is likely to be 875 cubic meters per day is rounded, to 800 M 3, for the conversion to the power.
(9) The gas can be condensed \and bottled as the C. N. G (condensed natural gas) which, can be sold in cylinders for the cooking purposes.
(10) The project will also need a boiler providing hot water piping to the digesters tanks, for maintaining its inner temperature at 45 degree centigrade (24 / 7) to ferment and decompose the biomass, helping to generate microbes which thrive on the decomposed mass, eating , and removing its foul odor, laying eggs and multiplying three-fold and competing their life cycle of 60 days when themselves they become the part of the slurry.
(11) While the biogas is constantly producing the methane gas, 30 % residue, (300 Kg) of the total manure of the digester tank oozes out every day as the slurry which is used as the the proven natural fertilizer for the farm land.
12) The digestor process works 24/7 days, without any gap.
NOTE;
An additional, Agitation tanks, can also be provided if the bio mass other than the dung js used or more solid items are present in the bio mass. The Agitator tank, will crush the solids, soften and blend it for six hours, before channeling it to the main tank of Digestion.
All such bio mas will be further processed in the digesters. to split up, acidify its gas dense particles to acidify and ferment for the breed of bacteria. The microbes will eat up the bio-mass, clearing its foul smell, producing carbon & methane gas, which is either used for kitchen gas or as the transport fuel, or CNG The anaerobic digestion produces Methane gas at 56 % and Carbon gas 24 %, respectively, leaving the residue as a rich fertilizer.
Both the above Agitation & Di gestations tanks, preferably in round silo shape, must be well air tight and completely insulated. to stop any in or out let gas leak except required for the gas storage tanks.
(4) The SLURRY AFFLUENT TANK.
30 % of the decomposed, odorless residue slurry rich in nutrients is a a byproduct of the digested biomass It is a natural fertilizer that improves the soil health and sustains its fertility. It is collected in a separata tank, and sold in dry granules or liquid form. Currently
30 % of the total biomass poured in to the Digester Tank is and odor less excellent fertilizer, currently sold (2024) @ 40 cents per kg, (Daily yield 3000 kg or 3 tons) x 40 cents $ 1200 per day or $ 36,000 per month. Curtailed to half ($ 18, 000 for likely fluctuation of manure jun put.
First year gross income, estimate, including production cost:
Sale of 50 calves $ 35,000
+ Power+ Gas. $ 1,008
+Sale of fertilized slurry= $ 18,000 p. m
Total Income p. M. $ 54,008. . Or $. 6, 48.000 (rounded), Per year.
Other Management expenses. Per month.
Interest 5 % + Principal, on Loan of $ 5, 00,000 for 5 years, 15,000
Insurance, utilities, Taxes, commission etc. $ 5,000
Directors (2) salary $. 5,000. Each. $ 10,000
Msc. exp. other than the operational staff). $ 10,000
—————— 25,000
Total Expenses ——————————————————————– $ $ 40,000
Total monthly income 54, 000
